BTES Selects Five Incorporated to Provide Integrated Billing and Customer Support Solution for FTTH Project

August 12, 2005 - Bristol Tennessee Essential Services (BTES) has selected Five Incorporated (Five) as it’s preferred solution provider for integrated customer care and billing software in preparation for roll-out of one of the most advanced Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployments in the Southeast.

As an industry leader in back-office operational support systems, Five is providing BTES with a software platform that supports multi-service provisioning, billing and customer management functions. Five is working with BTES to ensure that back-office systems and processes are positioned to support the rapid adoption rates for new services that BTES expects to see over the next two years.

In its first phase of deployment, BTES plans to offer voice, video, and high-speed Internet access to approximately 20,000 existing electric power customers. According to Dr. R. Michael Browder, General Manager of BTES, “one of the most challenging tasks facing the roll-out of this type of network is delivering high quality customer care through the back-office software systems.” Dr. Browder goes on to say “we have heard a number of horror stories about organizations that failed to address their back-office systems with the same level of diligence applied to the FTTH network. The end result was low customer satisfaction and lost revenue”.

According to Alan Ellison, President of Five, “our organization is excited to be part of the BTES roll-out. We believe that municipalities and their affiliated utility operations are uniquely positioned to deliver the next generation broadband services that small and medium size communities need to enrich the quality of life and to drive economic development. We commend BTES for taking a leadership roll in the industry.”
